Study Program Environmental Science
Acknowledgement
The application of Bill No. 22, in 1999 about the Regional Government has an effect on the enhancement of environmental management as an enhancement of environmental resource exploitation. The creation of a community based on sustainable development needs development with an environmental perspective in every step of development. The implementation of sustainable development, which was cast on agenda 21, has to put interest in social, economic, cultural, and natural resource aspects. These aspects are endangered aspects all over Indonesia. Environmental management needs a lot of extendable experts, teachers, and researchers, supervisors, planners, policy makers and administrators. Therefore, since 1984 Gajah Mada University has opened a Masters Program on Environmental Studies with comprehensive components a-biotic (physic), biotic and socio-cultural. This discipline bases the Geographical-Ecology approach on every environmental study and analysis which consists of: understanding, interaction, and interdependency between environmental components (biotic, a-biotic, and socio-culture) related to the spatial analysis aspect.
Vision and Mission
Vision : To be a prominent environmental program in Indonesia , South East Asia and even on the international level.
Mission : To create qualified masters who understand the theories and concepts which will enable them to solve environmental problems with comprehensive, holistic, and geographical-ecology approaches.
The Learning Goal
This program intends to create scientific masters who are qualified to:
- Have high moral and good personality integration.
- Responsiveness to every change concerning scientific and technological development, especially related to environmental problems of society and government.
- Ability to manage the environment, formulate and control various environmental problems with the geographical-ecology approach in environmental analysis frame-work to plan development, regional blooming and regional exterior evaluation.
Credits and learning schedule
Students of this program have to finish 44 " 59 credits, which are detailed follows:
- Compulsory Courses = 34 credits
- Elective Courses = 2 - 8 credits
- Thesis = 8 credits
