The Development Extension and Communication Study Programs produce the human resources either as the academic or the professional personnel who understands the changing paradigm of sustainable development. globalization, and liberalization, and decentralization of another community development with an integrated approach. Community development in various fields to achieve the Human Development Index (HDI) and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) needs support by communication process, extension and community empowerment so the development subjects are able to utilize the development of communication and information technology optimally.
The expert produced by the Development Extension and Communication Study Masters Programs will be able to increase the utilization of information and support the Community empowerment. Actively participate and provide solutions to the problems of community development processes and services to obtain direct economic benefits. Finally the raising in prosperity can be realized.
The uniqueness of Development Extension and Communication Study Masters Programs is that students are trained to be able to analyze the local knowledge which is related to the development studies and global innovation in the framework of sustainable community development.
The comptences of Development Extension and Communication Study Masters are :- Mastering the development and education theory, extension and communication as well as other social theories that are relevant to provide assistance, facilitation, and community empowerment.
- Mastering the social research methodologies (quantitative, qualitative and mixed method) and also being able to :
- map and analyze the social behavior problems and developing assistance, facilitation, and community empowerment techniques.
- develop the research through empirical theoretical studies based on the theories of education, counseling and communication and other relevant social theories.
- manage and develop the capacity of instructors in empowering and assisting the community to provide solutions to community behavior problems.
The Career prospects for Extension Education and Development Communication Masters are as the Extensionist or Community Developers, Researchers, Development Media Managers or Consultants, Lecturers, Entrepreneurs and others.

Single tuitions for Extension and Master of Development Communication Study Program are:
- Regular Class and Cooperation Class are Rp. 9,000,000.00 (nine million rupiahs) per semester.
- International Class (UKI) is Rp. 9,000,000 (nine million rupiahs) up to Rp. 29,000,000.00 (twenty nine million rupiahs) per semester.

The Competences of the Development Extension and Communication Study Doctoral Programs are :- Mastering the philosophy of science, the theory of development, theories of education and communication and other social theories that are relevant to providing assistance, facilitation, community empowerment and policy making.
- Mastering the social research methods (quantitative, qualitative, and mixed method) or combining data types, quantitative and qualitative, with survey research techniques and in-dept interviews, with interdisciplinary approaches, education, sociology, psychology and communication.
And Students are expected to have special skills:
- To be able to expand and deepen the theory of new counseling and communication through a multi-disciplinary and transdisciplinary approach in the context of community empowerment.
- To be able to develop research through empirical theoretical studies based on theories of education, counseling and communication, other relevant social theories, and discover the novelty in his/her research.
- To be able to manage and develop the capacity of extension, empowerment, community facilitators and contribute to the preparation of community empowerment policies.

The Elective courses can be taken at the Extension Education and Development Communication Master programs related to the topic of the dissertation or from other relevant study programs at the UGM Postgraduate weighing 4-8 credits
- in the third to sixth semester.
Semester 3 to 6 students take a dissertation weighing 30 credits.

The Development Extension and Communication Study Doctoral Programs is planned to be completed in 6 semesters (3 years) with the study load of 46-50 credits including writing a dissertation weighing 30 credits, with details of compulsory 12 credits, elective courses 4-8 credits.
