Universitas Gadjah Mada continues to strengthen its global partnership in line with the mandate of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPs UGM) through the Cultural Studies and Media Program (KBM Program), has officially signed a cooperation agreement with the Academy of Malay Studies, University of Malaya (APM UM). This signing is aimed at enhancing the strategic cooperation between the two institutions in higher education and research.

The signing of the cooperation agreement was carried out by the Dean of APM UM, Associate Prof. Dr. Sabzali Musa Kahn during the visit of the KBM Program from UGM to the University of Malaya (21/05). Previously, the Dean of SPs UGM, Prof. Ir. Siti Malkhamah, M.Sc., Ph.D., had signed the cooperation agreement. The signing of the cooperation document was also witnessed by the Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation of APM UM, Prof. Ir. Dr. Kaharudin Dimyati.

Prof. Sabzali expressed APM UM's appreciation for this cooperation in order to promote education advancement in developing countries such as Indonesia and Malaysia. The cooperation includes study visits, joint seminars, joint publications, and exchange of lecturers and students. In the future, APM UM also plans to visit UGM's partner to learn about filmmaking with the KBM Program.

As part of the collaboration, the KBM Program collaborates with the Centre for Malay Excellence Studies at APM UM to hold a Joint Seminar, each represented by one faculty member addressing the topic of postcolonialism. This activity is a manifestation of the KBM Program's contribution to disseminating knowledge internationally, especially since the topic of postcolonialism is still not widely spread in the academic environment in Malaysia.

Dr. Budiawan, as the faculty representative from the KBM Program and also the Chair of the KBM S3 Program, stated, "Through this joint seminar, it provides an opportunity for us to exchange experiences and understand the differences in approaches to cultural and media research. We are very grateful to Associate Professor Dr. Awang Azman who has helped facilitate communication so that this cooperation can be established."

Master's and doctoral students from the KBM Program, represented by Reni Juliani and Akhmad Jauhari, were also given the opportunity to present in the Colloquium of Students' Researches. Akhmad addressed the topic of Indramayu Javanese Language as a political identity, while Reni presented a paper titled "The Remediation of Folk Tales of Simeulue Community towards the Tsunami in Aceh." The presentation results from both sides at the joint seminar as well as student research presentations will be published together.
