Master’s Degree Program in Islamic Economics was established to respond to the development of business economic practices based in Islamic law. The recent growth and implementation of the shari’a businesses invites Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada to participate in providing excellent academics and practitioners with backgrounds in Islamic Economics. The core contents of the Islamic Economics Program are focused on the study of economics, not on the science of jurisprudence (or Islamic business law). The course materials are designed to enrich students by combining academic theoretical concepts with empirical case studies. Materials and instructional styles are organized in line with academic-scientific studies of economics, not on ukhuwah-fiqiyah. Students are challenged to assess the economic realities of using Islamic law, rather than dreaming of the application of Islamic law by denying reality. Graduates of the Master’s Program in Islamic Economics will be:
· Prepared for the job market, with a strong motivation to develop the Islamic economy.
· Able to compete in the professional world both as a practitioner and consultant in the field of Islamic economics.
