  • Program Studi Extension and Development Communication

    This is a graduate program which produces human resources as academics or professionals who understand the sustainable development paradigm, globalization, liberalization, and the decentralization of other societed developments with an integrated approach.

    Societed development in various fields needs communication process support and instruction/ development so the development subject will be able to use communication and information technology development optimistically. The alumnae of this program will able to increase the use of information, the use of the community empowerment, actively participate and provide solution to problems with societed development and the service to gain direct economic use, which in the end will increase living standards and society"s prosperity.

    Learning Facilities

    To support the learning process, this program is supported with high quality learning and support facilities:

    1. Libraries; which consist of the Central Library, GMU Graduate School and faculty library and other connected libraries, which have a collection of journals and books in this field.
    2. Laboratories; such as an instruction laboratory, communication lab, social lab at the agriculture department, and other supporting labs such as the Research Garden and the Horticultural Research of P.T. Pagilaran.
    3. Air-conditioned rooms for classes with supporting facilities such as LCD, OHP, and computers with internet connections.

    Graduate Program

    This program should to be finished in 4 semesters (2 years) with 40-50 credits including a thesis writing consisting of 8-12 credits. This program offers two concentrations:

    1. Development instruction, with the goal to understand and employ various strategies of society"s use which focuses on the understanding of the process of group dynamics, social imagination, societal change, the psychology of society"s learning, and social psychology.
    2. Development communication, with the goal to understand and employ the development communication in various fields focusing on business communication, organization communication, inter-cultural communication, and society relation management provided with various strategies on (development) communication.

    Requirements

    The applicant should have an undergraduate certificate. The program accepts a student from any educational background with a minimum cumulative index grade of 2.75. Applicant who do not have a background in instruction and/or communication education must follow the pre-graduate program in classes on Instruction, Development Communication Theories, Statistic for Social Science, and Social Research Methodology. The fee of pre-graduate program in not included in the tuition fee.

    Application Procedure

    Applicants should complete the GMU Graduate School form. This form is available at the GMU academic office. Applicants must complete the application form and return them to the Graduate School Office. Applicants should enclose two copies of the application form in addition to the following:

    1. A copy of a legalized undergraduate certificate
    2. A copy of a legalized academic transcript
    3. A recommendation letter (may be in essay form) from an institution which knows the academic capability of the applicant
    4. Study objectives about reasons, hopes and plan for this program
    5. The allowance letter from the institution (if the applicant is an employee of an institution)
    6. Letter of intent to pay the tuition fee from the institution/ exclamation to pay without scholarship
    7. Medical exclamation from certified doctor
    8. Proof on registration fee Rp. 500.000,- (TPA and TOEFL test included).
    9. Copy of International TOEFL/ TOEFL Like score from the PPB UGM
    10. stamped envelope enclosed with the name and address of the applicant

    Scholarships

    Lecturer of a university with a fulfilled condition amy receive BPPS scholarship from the Education Ministry. Students who does not receive a BPPS scholarship or other scholarships can apply for a GMU scholarship. The forms for information about the scholarship can be taken at the academic office.

    The Program Tuition Fee

    Tuition fee for the Master of Science program is Rp. 21.000.000,- (twenty one million rupiahs) for total semester.

    Doctoral Program

    This doctoral program should be finished in 6 semesters (3 years) with 51-58 credits with 11 credits of compulsory courses, 12-15 credits of elective courses, and dissertation with 18-32 credits. Elective courses may be taken from the Extension and Development Communication Program of the Graduate School. For applicants from other graduate program fields, pre-graduate program (three weeks) and follow the compulsory courses on Communication and Instruction on Development graduate program, namely Social Methodology Research, Development Communication Theory and Society Development.

    Registration with the Doctoral Program

Applicants should enclose two copies of the application form in addition to the following: Legal copy of certificate and transcript of undergraduate and graduate program

    • Proof of academic writing and academic activities
    • Curriculum vitae and employment history.
    • Name of the advisor wanted/ has been contacted.
    • Allowance letter from the superior employer (for the employment)
    • Two recommendation letters from anyone who knows the academic ability of the applicant (former advisor/ lecturer/ supervisor)
    • Research inquiry plan, seven copies
    • Proof of administration fee payment Rp. 750.000, - (TPA and TOEFL test included).
    • A minimum TOEFL score of 450 from centified TOEFL institution/GMU Language and Training Center (PPB).

    The Doctoral Program Tuition Fee

    The tuition fee for this program is Rp. 8.500.000,- (six million and five hundred thousand rupiahs)for each semester (2007). For the applicants with non-Extension and Development Communication graduate program backgrounds must pay for the pre-graduate program fee Rp. 2.000.000, - (two million rupiahs).
